Sørlandet is the southern coastal area of Norway. For many Norwegians the name is synonomous with holidays, with its picturesque towns of old white painted wooden houses, beautiful coastline and fine summer climate.

On the next two pages is a selection of pictures taken in Flekkefjord, a small town in west Vest-Agder fylke, Kristiansand, a large town which is the principal town of Vest-Agder fylke the 'capital' of the south, Grimstad, a small picturesque town in Aust-Agder fylke and finally Arendal, the pricipal town in Aust-Agder. All pictures were taken in September 2001.

The first four pictures are from Flekkefjord in Vest-Agder fylke. RA10719 is a Repstad bodied Volvo B10M operated by Sirdalsruta. This green livery is unusual, the normal livery being red and white. At the time these pictures were taken, Sirdalsruta was still wholly owned and operated by Sirdal Kommune, a local authority with its centre situated at Tonstad in the inland, mountainous part of Vest-Agder. The kommune, having doggedly held on to control of the bus company for many years despite spiralling losses, decided in November 2001 to sell the bus company to Nettbuss. Click for a larger picture

Seen entering the bus station at Flekkefjord is RF99050, a Scania L113 with Carrus Universal 330 bodywork (build no. 1258) of the Sirdalsruta fleet. The bus was new in April 1993. Click for a larger picture

Moving on to Kristiansand we see SR59097, a Volvo B9M with bodywork by Arna (build no. 4166). It is operated by Høvågruta, a small company operating a couple of routes between Høvåg, Lillesand and Kristiansand. They also operate tours to Russia and the Baltic countries. Click for a larger picture

Click for a larger picture PP25855 is a Volvo B10M with a Vest V25 body (build no. 2190) new in 1998. It is operated by Bussen Trafikkselskap (BTS) which is owned by T.K. Brøvig AS which also owns Kristiansand & Omegn Busstrafikk (KO Buss), and Mandal based Sørlandsruta. Together, these three companies are responsible for 80% of bus traffic in Vest-Agder fylke.

Again operated by Bussen Trafikkselskap, is PP12101. This is an integrally built low-floor bus by DAB Silkeborg, in Denmark. At the time of production and this picture, DAB Silkeborg was owned by Scania. In 2002 it was acquired by the Norwegian-Brazilian bus builder Vest-Busscar AS. Click for a larger picture

Click for a larger picture Still in Kristiansand is KF26553, a Jonckheere bodied DAF in the distinctive livery of Setesdal Bilruter. Setesdal Bilruter was the other contender for the purchase of Sirdalsruta.
