Arendal, is a town on the south-coast of Norway. With a population of nearly 40.000, Arendal kommune is the largest kommune for many miles around and represents almost 40% of the population of Aust-Agder county.

Arendal is a bustling town during the day through most of the year, but in the month of July it explodes with life with an influx of holidaymakers, many in boats, and visitors to the off-shore power boat racing in the waters around the town. At the same time the town's night-life takes off, with a wide variety of bars, discos and restaurants.

Arendal also features a variety of buses and bus operators. The principle operator is Nettbuss Sør, a relatively recently created Nettbuss subsidiary, the result of Nettbuss's acquisition of all the shares in Aust-Agder Trafikkselskap (ATS) and Arendal Dampskibsselskap. Other companies serving Arendal are; Telemark Bilruter, Risør og Tvedestrand Bilruter, Setesdal Bilruter and Frolandsruta.

In September 2001 I was in Arendal for a few days and took the oportunity to take a few pictures in and around the bus station.

NE52898 is a very fine looking Vest combi bus body mounted on a Volvo B9M chassis. The operator is Telemark Bilruter. Access to the large rear cargo area is assisted by the raised roof and a full size rear tail-lift. The bus is about to depart on the twice daily service to Vrådal, a 2¾ hour journey. The the bus behind is a Vest V10 bodied Volvo B10B belonging to Nettbuss Sør. Click for a larger picture

PL10182 is a Mercedes-Benz O 815 mini-bus operated by Setesdal Bilruter. Setesdal is one of the most beautiful areas of southern Norway and the colours in the livery on this bus reflect the colours in the local variant of the bunad (national costume). Click for a larger picture

This livery shows off well the lines of the Vest V25 bodywork on this Volvo B10M. The body is Vest's build no. 2168 and was new in 1998. NE78095 is operated by Risør og Tvedestrand Bilruter. Click for a larger picture
